Let's adopt a tortoise!

Le Jardin des Tortues is not only a wildlife park but also a wildlife recovery center. With its increasing number of inhabitants, our team has put in place the possibility of adoption.

PLEASE NOTE THAT ADOPTIONS ARE ONLY AVAILABLE FOR REUNION ISLAND RESIDENTS.

Radiated tortoise

Astrochelys radiata

Solitary species, individuals live well with their counterparts but tend to fight during mating season. Highly protected, the Radiated tortoise is coveted on the island and subject to frequent thefts. With a developped black market, adopting at Le Jardin des Tortues is a sure way to identify your tortoise and get all the necessary paperwork in compliance with the legislation!

African spurred tortoise

Centrochelys sulcata

Sold in animal stores, this species is more and more common on the island. Males can weigh up to 100 kilos when adults which means that adopting an African spurred tortoise should not be taken lightly. Be sure to have enough space for its development as they like to take shelter in burrows. Solitary and territorial, males often fight each other during mating season.
